FAMILY SERVICES
Caverhill Manor recognizes the importance of involving family members in the treatment of addictions. Therefore we encourage family members to undertake their own path of recovery. The services offered provide education, support and counselling to people who have been affected by addictions. Each participant will develop a more profound understanding of addiction and recognize how their life has been affected in order to support them to their own growth and healing. This will also include developing an understanding of unhealthy behaviours and give them strength to focus on their own physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being.
The family program is based on therapeutic, theoretical framework, allowing individuals, couples and families to develop a personal growth program that challenges each participant to work toward a deeper understanding of themself. The staff at Caverhill Manor has developed a program that will educate and develop skills for individual growth. Our goal is to transform feelings of powerlessness into a strong sense of empowerment.

Support groups are offered to the families of all residents at Caverhill Manor. The groups are based on models of mutual aid, support, self help, empowerment and cognitive behavioural therapies that emphasize a psycho-educational foundation for families to understand the cause, nature and impact of addiction on their lives. The groups will focus their energies on growth of an individual through awareness and also helping others on their path of recovery. Interventions do not come from outside the group but from within. The program uses self-directed learning that raises consciousness, which is the catalyst for change and development. The conception is that as our consciousness raises our understanding and thoughts are transformed giving rise to an inevitable change in our behaviour and actions.
The support groups include education, sharing, self-disclosure, moral development, empathy, mutual affirmation, positive reinforcement, open communication, advice, feedback and goal setting. These groups create cohesion and support for individuals struggling with the impact of addiction in their lives. All of these elements create a community in which members are encouraged to work through difficult problems and empower themselves and each other into capable and confident individuals.
